No-Bully Zone

The “No Bully Zone” program teaches students how to identify, address and report incidents of bullying. Developed and implemented by the Community Foundation of Middlesex County’s Council of Business Partners in partnership with Rushford, a Hartford Healthcare Partner, student volunteers who participate in the program are trained as peer leaders in the anti-bullying curriculum by certified prevention staff and are taught decision-making and communication skills.

These peer leaders then access help for their fellow students, suggest appropriate referrals, explore issues that of concern to them and the school climate, increase student and staff awareness on ways to identify, define and report incidents of bullying behavior, help identify community support resources and work with students to address bullying problems and promote peaceful conflict resolution.  Improvement in school climate is achieved by increasing pro-social behaviors (reducing feelings of alienation, instilling positive self-esteem) which ultimately reduces incidents of violence and bullying and the subsequent school suspensions.

The First Tee of Connecticut

The First Tee of Connecticut reaches thousands of youth each year through a variety of ways including in-school and national school programs, group lessons, squads, on-course team programs and summer camps.  Along with golf instruction, The First Tee’s Life Skills Curriculum (based on Nine Core Values; Honesty, Integrity, Sportsmanship, Respect, Courtesy, Judgment, Confidence, Responsibility and Perseverance and Nine Healthy Habits; Energy, Play, Safety, Vision, Mind, Family, Friends, School and Community) introduces young people to skills associated with positive youth development.

EMPOWER Leadership Sports has worked with hundreds of school groups with on-site and off-site programs that are focused on increasing self-confidence and self-esteem, understanding the difference between positive and negative risks/challenges and self coaching and leadership. • Wear orange to work, to school, to workout or to run errands.
• Fly orange flags at schools, town halls, or businesses.
• Conduct a bully-free rally at your school, town hall or library.
• Like Bully-Free Communities Facebook page.
• Take the pledge by signing it, liking it on Facebook, Instagram, signing a wall banner, etc.
• Create an orange paper chain of unity by having individuals contribute a link with their name on it.
